Sto. Tomas, Batangas – History was made on Wednesday as real estate developer Imperial Homes Corporation (IHC) launched the country’s first ever solar-powered subdivision named Via Verde. Via Verde is a solar powered community of 1,000 houses located on a three hectare property in Barangay San Vicente. IHC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Emma Imperial said the P600 million worth Via Verde project aims to alleviate the country’s backlog on mass housing estimated at about three million. It also targets providing a greener solution against the worsening effects of climate change.
Buyers will not have to spend for the 500 watt solar panels as they were installed in each of the housing units for free. IHC said this was done in order to allow the said buyers to enjoy lower electricity rate through the lease back program of its partner Enfinity-Imperial.
“Equipped with 500 watts solar solutions, these solar-powered homes will dramatically reduce the cost of electricity and provide a greener environment for our low cost housing projects,” IHC Chairman Imperial said.
Solar energy is ideal for communities because it is clean. Unlike gas, oil and coal, it is also renewable and sustainable, which Imperial adds would help protect the environment “where families can comfortably live in and children can safely grow in.” Unlike other traditional electric generators, solar energy also does not release toxic gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide and mercury to the atmosphere, which pollutes the air.
